This is WPI's first building, 1868, named for John Boynton - a prosperous tinware manufacturer who founded the University in 1865. Initially this building was used as classrooms and labs, and students would apply their theoretical learnings in Boynton at the Wasburn Shops next door. These two buildings had towers that became the symbol of WPI's unique philosophy - balance of theory and practice. Today, the building houses WPI's administrative offices - where any student who walks in, walks out at least a penny less.
